Global Illumination

Global Illumination may not be the correct term to use here, but I am looking for a lighting solution to produce results similar to those that I have seen in many children's TV series.
Here are few examples:
Octonauts https://img.lum.dolimg.com/v1/images/image_62a69485.jpeg
Pocoyo https://i.ytimg.com/vi/w-K8UIqLRIQ/maxresdefault.jpg

I have considered using Physical Sun and Sky, but I am not sure if this is the best solution to produce results similar to these programs.

Any specific advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

The first image looks to be a combination of diffuse pass with a shadow pass and subtle ambient occlusion pass over it.

The second looks like a diffuse pass and an ambient occlusion slapped over it. No direct lighting so no shadow pass. Also the AO seems to have a relatively large radius when compared to the first image.
