Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

looking cool steve!user added image I like his hat!

I do agree with pbman though - i know it's late in the game, but it would be good to see just a bit more variation in the colors of the skin texture - i think that that would really help - at the moment he's looking just a little bit too green.

you've done a top job though mate.

The specular seems a tad bit too much, is there any way you can tone it down?

Cheers Arran.

Yeah bit latee in the day to do it now, I rushed the texturign a bit so I could get to fiddeling with the materials, always do it basically because I need to practice texturing, it always starts off with lots of variation which I then look at and knock it back!

Thx - Yeah I can knock it down a bit, theres 2 spec maps on it using a sampler info node via a ramp to get a wet and slimey look to him, so all I have to do is adjust he colour gains of the maps.

I'll have a fiddle at dinner.

Much Better Steve

Forgot: if you want to do a quick cheat to darken them a bit more, stick a map in the diffuse channel too.

Cheers

Cheers Guys!

I might have a crack at a body ofr him, sometime!

Cheers for that Jay, I adjusted the diffuse channel a bit as I always use it for dirtying up bis and bats and was thinking of giving it a bask just before you posted!

Heres the final image, its the same one as in the finals thread, Ive adjusted the contrast of the textures to get some more variations and adjusted the lighting a bit.

Thanks to all for the help, its been a great challenge especially getting used to the Z-maya workflow, still not sure i'm there with it yet but at least ive got an idea!

Hope you like it!!

Hey there Steve,

I thought it was about time I dropped by your thread and took a look at your pirate.

I got to say you've done a lovely job on the modelling and the texturing, that Skin looks properly slimy!!

Good luck,

Mat.

Cheers guys,

heres a slight update, I changed the camera angle slightly, adjusted the eyes a touch, and rendered a larger image (as I thought I might be pushed for time) and put it on my CGportfolio.

heres a larger render done at 9.55 pm 31st Aug

https://features-temp.cgsociety.org/g...2785_large.jpg

Looks a lot better, in my eyes!

Edit- No post in Photoshop just a straight Maya mantal ray render

feel free to have a look.

cheers

Steve

I really like how this all came together Gster123, and the SSS looks alot better. Are you going to model a body for him sometime in the future?

Yep very nice indeed!

Is that an evermotion sky in the background?

Looking at the other 2 pieces in your folder, I remember your crashing car but did you ever post the animation? I'd be interested to see the finished product.

Take it easy,

Mat.

Cheers guys.

Dunno about a body at the moment!

Going to move onto a different project, got a bit of an idea, I really want to get some good experiance in Zbrush for some portfolio works/demo reel etc, I might even give animation a bash!

Hey Mat, the car crash looks a bit naff in the end, as I was new to maya and didnt really get the animation workflow down as well as the PC I was using was pretty slow.

I keep thinking of re-doing it with ncloth for damage and dynamics for the actual bounce and roll, i'm going to do it again, sometime....

Cheers

Steve

ohh Mat, sorry forgot to answere your question.

Its a HDR render from Vue 6 at uni.

Its a great programme, if youve got it at uni its well worth getting some skydomes from it, that ones rendered out at 4096, never know when I might need em! If not give me a shout and i'll render some off for you, just tell me what type of environment you want, sunny, stormey, overcast, etc etc

Cheers

Steve
