Complex UV Layout in Maya
Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

This is really nice Dilbert, everything looks great. The one particular thing I like is the texture/shader you used on the matt for the floor area. It is very convincing.

Well I feel like a prize jackass! I never even knew I had a PM with this forum. I would never have checked for it if mmoore hadn't said something about it. So, I go to check it for the first time, and there's like 10 PM's from various people dating back for 6 months! Sorry to all those people, and I'll answer the ones that are still relevant.

Some more progress. I should be done with the modeling in a week or so, so then it's time to play with the animation. I'm almost 100% happy with the yellow plastic shader, but haven't worked on the others yet.

Here's another render at higher render settings. It's going to be a trade off with quality for the final animation as I don't think I'd have the time to render the whole thing off at this quality settings.

Yeah magicsy, I like the brightness also, but the real segway has a pretty dull yellow sheen to the plastic. Maybe I'll take a little artistic license though.

That looks great, very impressive. I like that you thought it all out before starting to model. And that you want to animate it:attn: Also your choice should be very interesting, somehow I cannot stop asociating some kind of servant robot when I see this thing. I don't think it'll do well as a battle droid, but as you said -canonfodder
I don't have a clue how to achieve the quality and realism of your renders, but I prefer the dull image. It is even more believable than the other one. I think it handles the light more naturally. The shiny image gives away it's cg origin a bit, the dull one hides it very well.

great work I am really looking forward to see it animated

Excellent work dilberts! It looks like you are the maya rendering master!

I tend to agree with Magicsy though - I liked the brighter yellow also. I just felt that it worked better against the black metal of the rest of the frame. Your telescoping hand / foot is very cool. This should be a really great model when finished.

Looks like your new computer is working very well. Did you end up getting a Boxx or something else?

Almost done with the modeling. Just need to add the metalic mudguard attachments, and do the displacement map for the tire tread.

I think the yellow paint might be a bit too reflective. Maybe lower it just a bit.

Looking good mate.

Keep going!
