selecting Isoparms on CV-created surface

i can't figure this out user added image . i made a planar surface from CV curve and i want to insert more isoparms but i can't even select it, while nurbs plane isoparms can be selected. the curve has been closed so i don't know why i can't do this. any solution?

oh, is creating subdivision primitives a feature in maya 5? i can't seem to find it with my 4.5

i don't know for your first question but for your second, yes subdiv primitives is a feature in 4.5 and 5.0 unlimited but i'm not shure if it is in complete, it should be in create>>subdiv primitives

A planar surface is a trimmed surface, which are pretty limited in their ability to be manipulated like that.
