Transfer Surface Information

Decided to have a go at creating a simple normal map in Maya, so I looked it up in the help (searched for transfer surface information) and followed the instructions in the orange topic (the What's New: Transfer Surface Information)... Or at least, tried to!

When I select my two objects and go to Lighting/Shading, the Transfer Surface Information is greyed out and I can't select it... Anybody know why?

The objects are just two simple cylinders...
