Dude... Poly vertices just wont merge!?!?!?!?!

I want to merge 2 vertices, and I click the merge button and nothing happes, the history sais it did, but there is absolutely no change. I played with the distance stuff and it won't work either.

Thanx in advance!!! user added image

Make sure the 2 vertices are on the same object.
Make sure the object's normals are all facing the same direction.

Make sure that you are selecting both polygons too by dragging around the vertices if they are on top of eachother. If not try snapping one point to another then merging

hey thanks, good info to know for the future. But I found out what the problem was: the 2 vertices were WAY too far away from each other so even if I changed the difference it still didn't work. Thanx!! user added image
