Extruding a face along a path?

Is there a way to extrude a face along a path? I remember seing it done in MAX, and was wondering if it could be done in MAYA. I'm using 4.5 by the way.

Thanks user added image

I never manage to get it to work, but select your face and then in the outliner contrl select your curve then make sure that the option is set in the extrude options and then hit extrude. Also read the docs see if there is more information there.

Hmm... there doesn't seem to be an option for that in the Extrude Face Options Window. It has Local Values, Global Values and Other Values (Divisons and Random) user added image Maybe 4.5 complete doesn't have it?

lol Yeah, they are, Pure_morning. 6 looks promising with MAYA Hair though user added image Thanks anyway. Any idea how I do that in 4.5 now? I need to animate an extrusion to form a shape and having the extrusion follow the path seemed like the easiest way.

Oh, and Mr. Pure_Morning, let me just say I love your commercials at Framestore. user added image

I don't know about extruding a face, but you could always fake it with curves. Use the snap to point tool to make each edge of the face. then select two joining curves and attach. But make sure not to use blend, use connect. Then, once all the straight curves are attached to eachother, extrude that along the curve. Once done, just cap off both ends with the original face.

Make sure to up your divisions a lot. I think the default is 1 so it looks really ugly when you first do it.

I don't know about maya 4.5 but i maya 5 u could also Make the Object Live then draw an E.P curve around the Object then close the curve dray the curve that u want the object to follow then select under Surfaces extrude options select

Style:Tube ,Result Position: at Path ,Orientationuser added imageath Direction then choose output geometry.

Thats all if Maya 4.5 has that option (sorry for my babling if it doesn't)
