This course contains a little bit of everything with modeling, UVing, texturing and dynamics in Maya, as well as compositing multilayered EXR's in Photoshop.

EASY!!!! Making picture of Earth on Sphere

Hey,

I'm sure this is really easy. I have a few pictures of earth, mars, the moon etc that I want to put on spheres. The problem is that the pictures I am using are square with a black background around the planet (see attached file).

How can I make this look better on a sphere?

err the pic shows 1 side of the earth so it wont work for a 3d model without it being streched and deformed
not sure how to do it though

if you can get a picture desinged and edited for this thing it would make life alot easier

Head over to the NASA site, you can find loads of pics on there with a bit of hunting.

Hi Clebo,

this website......

Planet Pixel Emporium

is exactly what you're after.

The owner of the site has created maps for all the planets in the solar system and some of the moons. You'll find bump and specular maps and even cloud layers too.

I used the earth and moon in this clip....

Reddmango Clip

The sun was made by myself but I think that there is one on planet pixel.

Have fun,
