it looks good but the connector looks a little off i think those two little square parts that hold it in should be deeper or just cut-out type of things

starsj- yea, the game's on halt for now, but I'll keep you in mind!

acid44- the holes are actually modeled by reference and theyre just the right height, but the peice underneith was supposed to be white plastic :headbang:

anyway I have a 5.33 rating on the site, which is O.K. i guess

the model is nice and so is the render, but the design is impractical... most usb slots are right next to each other, so the sphere would prohibit the use of the slots on either side... just a thought. i also don't see in the rendered pic the ripples on either side of the sphere from the screen cap. *shrug*

Actually, the competition is who can design the best sphere. I could just as easily (actually, more easily) model a regular USB device, but I wanted to enter the competition with something.

Anyway, thanks for the comments people user added image

edit: 5.49 I guess is pretty good, that's what I got for a rating out of 7 votes as of now user added image

I like it matt, certainly not even close to the worst on that site. Good lighting and well excecuted. There is some truley amazing stuff on there though, I was amazed. A few more of us on here should enter - its a brilliant idea. And matt you should do another!

Might give it a go myself after my training : >

Nice one Matt! - I wish you well at cgsphere.com...

Hey what you think about issuing a challenge to everyone here to enter their own submission? I'd certainly give it a go! Either post them in the challenge area or we can post them in this thread user added image

The cgsphere.com project is open to all levels of skill (thank goodness user added image ) maybe we can even post W.I.P of our various spheres and get feedback before we submit to cgsphere.com.

What do ya say Matt?

that's a great idea, tiddles!

I would do it myself but at the moment my computer is infected 100% by a virus named W32.Spybot.Worm... so when I get it cleaned out I'd be really interested in doing something like that user added image

Sorry to hear that Matt user added image

You might have some success with the latest Symantec spybot removal tool (worth a try)

https://www.symantec.com/enterprise/s...010416-4413-99

I downloaded the maya scene from cgsphere.com and have started to rough out my model. I'd be happy to post some W.I.P once it starts taking shape. I think alot from this site would enjoy getting into this project & the gallerys at cgsphere are totally inspiring!

Thats cool tiddles user added image

about my computer issue...

I've almost got it sorted... system restore managed to restore the virus after i removed it manually, only to have it write itself into the system.
I've wiped the hard drive and I'm reinstalling my stuff.

I had symantec antivirus, spybot S&D, sypbot blaster, ad-aware, and many online scans such as pcpitstop and Panda, all detected it but couldn't do anything because it was registered as a system process. So... no matter how hard I tried I still didnt remove it fully, because it was a windows "startup service..."

Anyway, I'll be back on 3d in a few days user added image
