Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Maya textures?

Well i got maya about 4 days ago, so ive got a strong feel for how it all works (or at least i like to think). Ive got modeling down, i can make things look like the things i want them to be lol, but does maya not come with any textures for objects? i found the like 12 really basic ones that you can get by clicking that box next to the color for the material, but besides that im kinda lost lol. Id like to just know either where all the textures maya 5 unlimted comes with are excactly, or how one goes about applying his own texture.

Thx user added image

There are some shaders that you can download from hear or find on the web. Same thing for textures. A lot of people Make there own textures.

To get to the extra textures and shaders that come with the unlimted hear is what you do. At least the way I get to them.

Window > Rendering Editors > HyperShade
when the HyperShade comes up there should be 2 main work areas. The one on top will have the Materials tab highlighted. That list all the shaders that you can pic when you apply a existing material to your object. On the bottom section it will have two tabs one is work area and the other is ShaderLibrary. Click on the ShaderLibrary, find what you want in thoughs folders. Middle mouse drag it up to top panle of the Hypershade with the rest of the Matirals. once that shader is there, thin you can Rmouse the object and aply the shader like the existing ones..

Please let me know if this was helpfull.

Just fyi:

You may "not" have installed the shader library when you installed Maya, as NOT installing it IS an option.

You MAY have to grab your install disc to install it if you didn't alreadyuser added image

Pony is right.

uh, not exactly. I had already found those options before, i was wondering if there were built in textures, for instance if there was a grass texture, a steel texture, and so on. I used to use Strata Studio Pro and that came with tons of built-in textures. I can make my own for sure, but i was wondering if there were really basic ones besides those
