trying my hand at human modeling

hey guys,
here is my new work. human modeling... think would be tough. but, i know edge loops now. so, we'll see.
this time i am also trying to make it the poly-by-poly way, with the help of append to polygon tool.
so, let me have your crits.

Hey Utpal. Nice start! Before adding any more edges I would concentrate on getting the overall volume on the head where you want it. The jaw and chin could use some attention. The top of the head seems a little flat and I think you could spread out the verts on the temple for better edge flow. Your loops are looking good!

Are you using any refs?

Just take your time and it will turn out awesome!

hey dave i will do that. though, there are so many things that need attention at this stage. and i am getting confused about which to attend to first...

hey nice start mate.
Something i find usefull when creating characters is to setup a hot key for the poly smooth. Actually, i have set Cntrl S, as my smooth hot key. By default its the save button.
I jump from low poly to smooth poly and back again all the time. It easyer that way to see where your most major mistakes are.

by the way, the use of edge loops tool, and spin faces tool will both be your best friend modeling this. :-) so i your not using them, i suggest you check them out. It will make a big differnce to your model, expecially when you get into muscle flow.

what are edge loop tools and spin faces tool? never heard of them before. are they plugins that i could download from somewhere?

i just discovered that the title of my WIP is spelled wrong. it looks incredibly silly.
i tried to change it but, can't. is there any way?

This is a great set of poly modeling tools. The most handy one i find here is the Edge loops, which is where you just select the edge of a poly and it splits the polys right around the object. Simalar to the cut faces tool but better.

This is the spins faces tool. Very handy to creat your geomety to flow, and illiminates tri's.

The mouth loops could still use some work. Take a look at this:

Note: There is a loop from where the nose turns to cartilage and to the side of the mouth.

nick, thanks for the links man. i downloaded both of them and i think they should make things a lot easier and faster for me. though, i am a bit of control freak and start panicking if something unpredictable happens, so it will take some getting used to.
hey nextDesign, my knowledge of anatomy is zero. i think i have that loop now, but if i don't; can you maybe use my own image to show me?

well, my intention for making this face is basically to learn to do face rig with joints. my las model didnt have good loops, so i thought i will make a new one. so, maybe i will just make the head and maybe shoulders (this idea is lifted from the showreel of a guy called Joe Sandstrom. his facial rig was joint controlled). :bandit:
also, do you guys know about any tutorials on how to make such a rig?
