Once again thanks. Took a break for a few days since the project is nearly finished anyway, but i'll be making some more improvements in the near future. As for the shadows Matt, there are actually 2 lights. The soft sun light which casts a subtle shadow and the bulb light which casts the hard shadows you noticed. I'll be playing around with the settings a little more.
I'll add a stronger light from the inside in the end, but first i'll also have to redo the materials (they're too shiny right now in comparison to the real object) and also the normals to get those hard edges.
Well i finally got around to tweaking the scene a little bit. I fixed the smoothed normals problem and also lowered the materials reflection. Added a few beans on the table for effect as well.
I guess this is about it. I could really use as many suggestions as possible now, before i submit the final entry. So please give me a hand, because after all this work it's getting pretty hard for me to be able to see clearly what's wrong or what's missing.
I think your model is looking great, however the scene in the window, or maybe the lighting is throwing the whole image off. Its hard to put my finger on it, but something looks askew with the latest render. Maybe its just th changed angle, because the one on 05-12-2005 09:18 PM looked a bit better in my opinion.
What I lack in skill I make up for with enthusiasm.
Didn't have too much time these last days but starting tomorrow i'll be working on the final product. I analyzed the current image a little (a little more actually ) and you're right badtertle, something just isn't working.
The big problem is that you can't really point the finger to one element in the scene and the reason for this is that the entire background is just missing something. The truth is it wasn't designed for a photorealistic effect so small tweaks are never going to make it look good.
And so i've come to the painful decision to try and change the background entirely. I know time is runing out, but i'll go with a simple background and hopefuly things will turn out alright.
can you post another pic with the current lighting, but with the angle used on 05-12-2005 09:18 PM . A lot of the problem is probably an optical illusion caused by the light through the window without seeing the sun. It also may be a staging issue with the balance of the left and right of your shot.
What I lack in skill I make up for with enthusiasm.
