Syntax Error

What does syntax error mean?

it appears in the help box or whatever you call it(the part where it tells you what kind of error you got)

Happens when i turn on Shading Xray on my view, and then i hit G to merge vertice. So i have to go back to the menu and select merge apply manually then its normal again. So again what does that mean?

Refers to the spelling and grammar of a programming language. Computers are inflexible machines that understand what you type only if you type it in the exact form that the computer expects. The expected form is called the syntax.

Each program defines its own syntactical rules that control which words the computer understands, which combinations of words are meaningful, and what punctuation is necessary.

In basic english it is when you make a spelling or gramitical error when typing a command in the command line.
