This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.
The first post will be edited to keep an image of the most resent progress so newcomers know what they're getting in to.
This was my first model. It was for a challange. I don't have the last complete file on her so there are parts missing. Regardless much needs to be reworked now anyway.
I'm redoing and building a better her because the poly face count was way in the sky. 40k just for the chest piece. What can I say I was a noob. I learned a lot doing her though and I'v learned much since then.
Current render of the file I dug out.
I'll be updating with before and after screen shots while replacing/ inproving parts.
hummm no not really. Haven't heard of that my self. when I did this back in march a couple years ago I was working from scratch. All I had to go by was that concept drawing.
Maybe I'll see if I can find that tutorial..don't think they will cover what I will, LOL
There is a little bit of glow on the ankel and one on the gold, that was done in post in photoshop if I remember right, but mostly just standard maya soft with blinn's etc.. out of box.. was done in 4.5 back then also.
As I said one of the mistakes I made when I was doing this in the first place and didn't have time then to corect was the model was way to heavy. Lets have a look.
1. is The wire frame of the original geo there. Its subD's how heavy is that !! crazy. It happend with bad convertion settings if I remember right. The bit of gray showing is me matching up the new replacment geo.
2. is the proxy smoothed geo shaped right. Its being driven buy 3.
3. the low poly mesh that when smoothed will be just as smooth as the subD. but much lighter.
4. is how light the polys are when there smoothed once even.
yeah, i agree with dae.. I think youv'e got a law-suit on your hands... take em' for everything they've got. seriously though, awesome attention to detail pony, inspiring for myself to focus on details. Looking forward to this.
