Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 2
This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

when i looked in the gallery on their site,
i did see some ZB highrez meshes.

maybe u can split it by volume.

if the final mesh is 50mb, u can send 5 10mb rar [or zip]files

That would be my first 3d-modeling challenge. I think I'll enter user added image

just a quick question mike - after looking at the 3D Art to Part guidelines, it seems to say that intersecting geometry will come out as a one piece. so if I have my characters hand resting on his stomach, the geometry of the hand can still stay seperate from the geometry of the stomach - as long as they intersect it will come out as one piece, right? Hope that makes sense.

Tink so arran, I n my model im making sepperate parts but making sure that they ar intersecting so that it becomes one "product". The way I thought about it was sculpting with clay, you an model sepperate parts then stick them on the the main object..

Might be wrong though

Right. When I said make your model so that it's one piece, what I meant was make the final statue one piece. The model itself can be any number of seperate pieces.

Guess I missinterpreted the one pice rule. Now I don't have to worry about figuring out how model my whole mech into one piece.

hey mike, i quick side note here man.

I see that there is quit a few more entries for this comp (up to 14 so far), but I`m alittle disapointed that there was no advertiment for this one, like we all surjested 2 u. no emails no front page notice, nutting but a post in this forum.

Now i know that the less enter the better my chances of winning are, just don`t want a good comp to be a walk over

(thats not a shot at everyone who has entered already- honest)

I think its not to late to let some others know about this comp

i mean feel free 2 run your comp your way, just speaking my mind here after you asked for r surgestions afew weeks back.

loving this one by the way

eh, happy new year all!
Mike, I have a question! I've allways used maya but since a few months I'm using 3D max... Not because I like it but because I had to change... and now I'm used to it. Now the fact of the matter is: Do I really have to create a new account in simplymax to take part on this challenge?
Anyway Simplymax challenge forum is almost dead... it would be cool to have a unified challenge forum...

thx

any software can be used. maya is obviously preferred for this particular forum, but not necessary

What are you looking for when judging, Mike?

I am wondering as the size limit is 10meg, if we can send you a low poly mesh (low being large for 10MB) and then from your side you could perform the necessary smoothing?

Mike is using the poll to help decide the winner, not to officially decide the winner ( hope that makes sence ).

Originally quoted by mtmckinley:
Because of the open-endedness of this theme, and because I'm the only judge (since I'm providing the prize as opposed to this site) I'll post a poll at the end of the challenge to allow people to vote for the finished entry they like the best and I'll factor that choice into my judgement. Note that the one that people all vote for may not be the one that wins!

Actually, I'm kind nervous about a poll of this nature. They seem to turn into a who's more popular contest. Well, atleast from what I have seen on other boards. But I'm probably being too paraniod about it.
