Model and animate a prism

Anyone got any suggestions on the best way to model a prism for animation? I think prism is the word i'm looking for, like a spiral opening. I'm sure if i had an animation of one in front of me i'd have no problem but i don't and i'm struggling to see how to do it.

I wouldn't imagine it'd be too tough. The biggest trick to it is placing the pivot points where they'd need to go so when you rotate the shutters, it opens.

I think you're right, i don't see it as that difficuilt to do, i just need to find some reference pics for shape and to see how the animation works exactly.
