Add-ins = registry havoc and possible death. Be careful what you put in there.

since I just upgraded to Win XP from Win 2000, I realized I lost something I used to really like, that is in a Windows Explorer window I would be able to see a preview image of a picture file or a small window to play video files on the left side of the window. I now cannot seem to have that anymore. Anyone know of a way to get it back in win XP?

In Win2000 you had to have View this folder as a webpage to have this setting on. I cannot seem to find any equivelant thing in XP.

I find this to be the best tool for XP, VoptXP..

It is a defragmenting program, it really does its work. Much better than Defragmenter with comes with Windows.

I run VoptXP once everyday and my harddrive is fast as if it cleanly installed.

Ok.. I dont get it. I keep seeing posts everywhere on how to make XP look like Windows2000 / 98.

Hello! What the hell did you buy XP for in the first place?!

Jeez!

And on a further note, I recently trashed my Hummer V2 so that it would look more like my other P.O.S. car that don't work. user added image

Actually, the XP doodads really slow down maya and other demanding apps.

I agree with Emo- I took me a while.. but I love XP
way more than 2000. The tweaks allow you to speed it up and get rid of some unecessary junk.
Once I did tweaks XP runs way faster, Is much more stable,
(never crashed), and boots in about 1/3 the time.
2000 was getting bogged down w/ all the updates and service packs etc.

The only thing I hate is that mushy look to it - blah
so I customize it to look like 2000. ( it's probably that look
and animations etc. that slow it down )

["Add-ins = registry havoc and possible death. Be careful what you put in there." dave_baer]

So far- so good - no reg havoc.

I love the virtual destops! (just get rid of the animating transition between destops)

also it's xp - so if your worried, just create a restore point
before you install - if theres any reg havoc- just undo it.
