Surface Information transfer problem

So I'm trying to make a normal map with Maya 6. I have a low poly model and a hi poly model. I click hi_poly then shift-click low_poly and click Lighting/Shading>Transfer Surface Information dialogue box. When I click this, I get an error in the script line that says

"Error: Value is out of range: 0"

I have my low_poly UVs in 0,1 space, nothing is overlapping, etc.

Anyone have any clue?
