NURBS Mapping

Is it possible to see the map live in Maya and not just when I render it?

Press "6" for hardware texture view. You can adjust the preview quality, but the higher the quality of the preview, the more taxing it is on your machine.

Even so, you won't see stuff like bump maps or such until you render.
