Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

instead of smoothing the brick i think a better idea would be to bevel the edges... it basically turns into a diamond shape because smooth essentially looks at the average position between two edges and creates a new edge (but gets rid of the other two)... so you COULD smooth your brick and get a smooth-edged brick, but only if you had several edges created near each 'edge' of the brick.

Accept no substitutions.

NeoStrider answered you perfectly, so I won't touch on that 1st question.

As far as the difference between Complete and Unlimited, Unlimited has the same features and functions as Complete, with the added bonus of Maya Fluid Effects, Maya Cloth, Maya Hair, Maya Fur, and Maya Live.
