I've seen a couple of them and they all seem to have no real story in them. Just a bunch of cool stuff edited after each other.

Try giving examples of different areas...

Ideas:

Cartoon demo
Space demo
underwater demo
commercial demo (a big one)
realism demo
animation of your characters (face expressions, movement)
special effects in and out of demos
and a funny/cool ending user added image

these are the ones i"ve seen mostly when looking at demo reels...

As Mike already hinted at, your demo reel should showcase your skills. Afterall, that is the whole purpose of the demo rell. The work you put on the reel should also be the best of the best of the best of your work.

I second what Mike and Danny have said...Somethings u should avoid tho...spaceships (been exploited to death), dinosaurs (ditto), flying logos (dont go there)...there are other no no's but i cant really think straight at the moment. Maybe on of the guys can help out user added image
