This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

Personal projects

Hy everyone, i just made some renders for my portfolio and just want to get some comment, and sugestions about it. This first project i modeled my mobile phone using some references, rendered using two passes(color and occlusion) with mental ray.

No just a simple color map, i made the Cybershot writing by using a text in maya and boolean it, then just fixed the topology.

I also made 2 environment domes, one for the color gray, the other for the reflections in the shaders. I think the dome used for the reflections didn't do a very good job, probably the color on it needs to be changed.

Okay so this next project, i modeled the low rez base in maya and exported into zbrush and worked on it to almost 4 mil polys. It's not finished, needs more work on the head, and so on but if you guys see something not right, please say so.When i modeled this caracter i was going for a comic book look.

This project was rendered the same way as the phone, 2 passes(color and occlusion), but the reflection dome in this one looks better in the reflection.

That guy is like super hero ripped. The models look good, some parts on the camera could use some more geo, and my only other crit is the renders are missing contact shadows it seems, still pretty good though.

Well thanks for the comment, the phone isn't flat on the back as you can see and that maybe a reason there is no contact shadow or maybe i need to tweake the cntrl_occlusion shader that i have, witch has more control on the direction of the shadow then the default maya occlusion shader.

sub zero vs batman? that's a little unfair isn't it?

the little grey circle next to the lens on the camera needs the edges on the side softened or smoothed. it looks very jaggered

the bug is cool

the man... umm, i'm no expert on anatomy so i can't really say anything.
although i would have thought the shoulders would be... beefier?

Well i like the game MK VS DC. And youre right it isn't fair, Batman(Bruce Wayne has more money) just kidding. Sub-Zero would win cuz he would sue Batman and get lots of money.

my money is on sub zero, but thats because oof a bias towards MK characters :p

i didn't actually know this was a real game until now. i just found the website and man..... why not show the flash being burnt to cinders by scorpian?? user added image hahaha

i've never heard of shazam or deathstroke, but they should have more characters in there! user added image

i dont know what it is but MK looks so much different to other fighting games... it's so... rigid? not sure what word would describe it, but if you see two dudes fighting MK style you can totally tell its MK
