This course contains a little bit of everything with modeling, UVing, texturing and dynamics in Maya, as well as compositing multilayered EXR's in Photoshop.

March Challenge-GCastro- Noobie

It'll be my first time entering, so I hope I can complete this contest. I love robots, and it should be really fun!

More to come.

Ok, here's a little something for ya user added image
A really rough sketch I did last night. I might tone down the leg size and increase the ab/chest area size. I might do another detail sketch of the head/face, but I think I'm gonna go into modeling mode user added image

It's a robot made of overlapping metal armor plates. Well, that's the plan anyway user added image

More to come!

I'm finding now how much of a newbie I really am at modeling. My concentration is iin character animation, but I'd like to be more versitle in the other areas as well. Thats why I'm here user added image Hopefully I can get some pointers, especially on adding detail. Here's a rough start to the models arm. Just not sure how to go about adding notches/detail/form. I basically used polygon cubes and tweaked them a bit.

here you go:

thats a good start george!

with the detail as its a bot just get you rough shape first. Then you can always add little bits as you improve, dont worry to much on the detail yet - It WILL come mate, but lots of this modeling first.

Also dont be scared to pull all kinds of wired shapes! you will be suprised with what comes up accidently user added image

But its great to see you doing a project - now we can watch your improvement!

george - I used your ref to show an example..

As you drawing is dam good then that sould be our aim right from the off...so:

It wasnt a full front view but I hope it will help a little (draw a good front and side, then you cant go wrong)

I just used a nurbs cylinder and scaled as as shown below:

https://www.simplymaya.com/kevin_priv...ot/george1.jpg

then started to get the shape:

https://www.simplymaya.com/kevin_priv...ot/george2.jpg

now with a side to you could really get close to your image!

then when you have you shape you can convert to polys (under the modify menu) and really start to add detail! then you could just select faces and cut away, add bits like your middle joint area etc..

hope this helps mate

or you could just use polys from the off mate, but i find this way above very usefull to get good "basic" shapes started

Working hard on my animation demo reel for this year's siggraph, so haven't put enough time into this as I could, but it's going.

Here's a rough model so far:

Man, I'm getting my butt kicked user added image

I'm think of going a slightly different route than my sketch:
I really hope to finish this so I can use it for my animations
