Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

when duplicating the object make sure the settings are set to 'copy' not 'instance'. The resulting object will be separate from the original.

well, thx.
However that would be just a precaution, whats the cure?

How do I uninstance after I have already instanced several objects. I know how to do that in max, its called "make unique" and is a very simple thing to do.

im afraid the folks at alias didnt think that people woulld need an easy way to uninstance.

rather than using instance, u should duplicate your object
then in the connection editor, connect the outMesh of your original object to the inMesh of the duplicated object.
then when your are finished editing both, simply dusconnect the relationship.
this way is much better than duplicate instance option, because there's a lot more you can do with that level of control.
