Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

Gibson Les Paul

Been modeling this for the past couple of days in my spare time, i'm going to use it for some texturing practice as I've found that i'm lacking on the subject (for my organic models) so I thought this would be a nice bit of a project to get some theories down.

Any comments/Crits on the model greatley appreciated

Looks REALLY nice! Are you using polys with a bevel or Sub-D's?

Cheers Jim, its all polys, with beveled then smoothed (level 1) on the larger areas, like the body and the neck to get the contours.

Bit of an update, been creating procedural textures for the simple areas (metalic and plastic areas)

Looks good so far. My only crit is that the pick-ups look alittle too much in the body. I have a Epiphone Les Paul model guitar (which is identical to the Gibson Les Paul, just cheaper in price). and my pickups are out towards the strings more. Also, the volume/tone knobs looks like the outter most part of the knob (the skinny part that comes up) looks abit too small. But other than that, it looks really good. user added image

Cheers for tyhe comments guys.

Bird - Not too sure about the knobs myself, might give them a tweek, but they match the pots that I've got on mine at the moment.

On the pick up front, I installed some Dimarzio job's on mine (I've a 70's Les Paul copy Vintage cheapos!! LOL) that were a bit too punchey for my tastes so I moved them back a bit so thats probably why they seem a bit too far back! Do you have the pick up covers on yours as I left them off, out of lazyness!

difficult with perspective disortion; great subject, needs a little tweaking but i know you'll figure it.

put some strings at the end of the neck, you know the curly bits left over after re-stringing at the machine heads, add hyper-realism user added image

Yea, its got all stock/factory electronics. I didnt bother messing with the pick-up guards/covers. I think it looks nice w/them on. I needa get some better ones tho. When I play, it sounds fine. But when I record anything, it sounds ****ed up. I know the pick ups arent causing it, but itll help out alot w/new pickups.

Oh, its Hybrid/brid. not bird. user added image Im sure it was a typo.

Should have some updates after the weekend!

Mirek - there is a little string there, I might remodel some things that i'm not too happy with as I go along

Cheers for the comments
