poly to sub divs

i created a model of a woman from poly cylinders, i converted the arm and leg to sub divs no problem, however when i try to convert the body maya creates one solid side and her chest is converted into a series of 2d ovals!

what is goin on???

wow that is wierd. Why dont you put up a pic for us to see what going on. You might get some more help that way :-)


There's nothing normal about normals. In FACT i think the are abnormal.

I think I know whats happening. In polygon, it might be because you didn't merge a lot of the vertices along the edges where you're getting ovals. When converting from poly to subD, all the edges tend to curve around which might be the problem you're having. And if you can't merge the verts, you might need to change the normals so that they're facing the same way(outwards) then merge.
