Mental Ray-Coffetable

Took a step back from my cartoon to get some basics nice and sturdy under my belt, here is what Iv managed to get so far

I used the polygon plane as my light source

Heres a png version if anyone wants to see. Also can someone explain why, if I try to use a dome as the light sorce, everything becomes much too dark?

nooo... don't use planes like that!!!!!!!

Use mental Ray area lights!!!! Make a point light ang convert to MR area light!
