Just starting

Hey, I just started using Maya and I am confused to the extent of frustration. Let me ask this simple question, just for starters:

I want to create a simple city scape with buildings and a street, and I have a tiff image that I can import to model. The question is What size should the image be? I'm not sure of the size I need to create this if I want to make a output animation for 720 x 486.
Can anyone shed some light? Thanks Gene
