Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 2
This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

NURB circle resizing is not smooth.

Hi All,

I am new to the site. I am really enjoying the forums and being very new to Maya am picking it up slowly but surely.

I am using Maya 6 and going through some tutorials I bought from VTC. They have shown me how to animate a pumpkin and model an apple and an arm. It gets tougher on the second CD but not there yet.

Whilst modelling my pumpkin the video showed us how to create a circle NURB (What does NURB mean btw? :p ) and then to create a lofted surface. I have created the nurb circle and changed it's shape with the vertex's but when I resize the shape (I used 'r' on my keyboard) it doesn't change smoothly when I drag, more of a jump. It's quite difficult to get the right shape when it's so erratic.

Last night when I was using the reshape it was fine. I deleted the nurb circle and started from fresh but it's still jumping. :headbang:

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

well if anything i can tell you what NURBS stands for:

non-uniform rational b-splines. what's that mean? beats the hell outta me, but they're pretty user added image

as far as your scaling problem... i've tried to recreate it, but can't... so there's either human error or something wrong with your installation of maya.

Thank you for the NURBS definition. At least I am not sat there wandering about it!

The problem with the resizing is strange. When I resize the object it jumps in stages of whole values and not 0. I can change the value in the scale.

I get around the problem by clicking off the yellow box and clicking back on it, the scale then works ok.

Weird......At least I can scale properly now.

If there is any good tutorials that you guy's use it would be great to know of the good ones.

I am animating a character at the moment and really enjoy it.

There seems to be the character animation side and modeling side to Maya, I guess people specialise in either. Has anyone done a full cartoon or clip from start to finish?

A lot of SMers have done show reels. Just check out the Finished Work Section and you'll see some nice modelling/ rendering and also some animation in there. Maybe you'd also contribute to it someday cause i surely haven't. :p

I will have a go, not good enough to do anything with going through a tutorial at the moment.

The resizing problem was cured by deleting the prefs folder in \\My Documents\Maya\6.0\prefs then restarting Maya so it created a new folder.

The resizing problem has gone!!
