Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Hmmm, sorry, I'm not able to help u with that tutorial...

But I would recommend studying the cartoon dog tutorial, that could help u. I think it explains better than that site, it's easier to understand.

I second the use of the dog tutorial. Little easier for a first time out with nurbs. For the current though, look up detaching surfaces, and fillets in the help. Those are the two process you're going to need to connect the arm to the torso.

The torso is a single shell that you need to break up (detach surfaces), you also need to split the arm along a couple seams (isoparm, detach surfaces). Then you have to fillet between the arm and the torso... a couple of times, rebuilding the surface as you go.

Good Luck!

Actually, the techniques are exactly the same, lay out the basic shape in nurbs, convert to poly, combine, refine, convert to sub-d/smooth poly... If this is your first go at organic modelling, start out with something simple (in fact, ALWAYS start out simple and add details as you go along), and don't try to model a photorealistic human body for the first few models...
EDIT: If you don't believe me, buy the Organic Modelling 2 tutorial, which is also by Kurt. The techniques are exactly the same, the model is just more complicated and detailed, but once you master the technique, creating something like that won't be a problem user added image

If you want to try a different approach, check out the Joan Of Arc tutorial over at 3dtotal.com, that was my first attempt at human modelling, and the tutorial is awesome IMO, you just gotta figure out what the Max tools are in Maya, the names aren't always the same...

As for nurbs, I wouldn't worry about them unless it's for a job where you're required to use them... Check out some of Kurt and Jango's work, that's all sub-d's just like the cartoon dog... In fact, I think most organic modelling, at least on this forum, is poly/sub-d instead of nurbs...

That said, good luck on the modelling, and remember to post some WIP's! user added image
