This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

In need for guidance

Am looking forward to make a star wars tv trailer on maya and even though I've got most of the stuff I need one thing that i havent found is how do i create laser beams or whatever it is that space ships fire. Can someone direct me to relevant books or tutorials? It's really important to find out. Thanks

Under the Special Effects tab in a material is a glow attribute. Try making some tubes and apply that to it and play with the intensity and stuff. Then you can just animate them shooting across the screen.
