Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 1
This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

Eurofighter Typhoon

Im gonna finish modeling my eurofighter which i have just started, i want to either use fluid and particles to make my own environment or comp it onto a live plate

model so far

secretly the open part isn't actually a cockpit, its a new model that's designed to trick enemy pilots into thinking the pilot has ejected
so when the enemy goes to capture the plane they get surprised and blown to bits! user added image

how'd you make those clouds??

Joopson: the cockpit it open as in the modeling stage i wanted to see it open and forgot to close it for the test render, also there is no other side to the plane in the pic just the left hand side.

Chirone: the clouds were done using fluids, one for the clouds and one for the environment(which could also be done using a ramp shader) its basically the same set up in the visor as it was only for a test. bit of post work done in ps

cheers

small update
been a bit busy doin DIY and what not,
would have posted this a few days ago but havent been able to get onto the site

wing and tail is now fully attached,
only minor cleanup needed an a little bit of modelling ie bombs ect...

1600 polys so far but im not that bothered about the count

wow 1600... that doesn't sound high at all

hmm and the clouds are from fluids...
cloud generating things dont seem to look like clouds to me...

or at least with the fluid clouds they are always too small and scattered and not what i want...

Chirone:::: cheers,i know of a way to make clouds using a sphere and a shader, they are 3d to an extent, but very easy to make, good if ur not going to go close up to them, i will post the method next time, u may already know it though

the bombs are looking pretty cool
although i suppose you wont bother with making the back of them look like smoke and stuff can come out?

i may have seen what you're talking about with the clouds, but also might not have.

post the method anyway, i'm sure it wont hurt user added image

Chirone::::: ,ha, i had forgotten to model the exhausts of the missiles although the big one in the middle is a external fuel tank i think,

basically for the clouds, make a nurbs sphere and stretch a bit, create a lambert and plug the cloud node(under 3d textures) into transparency, fiddle with the settings, try to get an all white edge as black will show it up,
i done this with bout 10 secs fiddling not the best example but they r quick to render unlike fluid clouds, u can make better clouds than this example i just dont have the time atm

well not done much to the model but i sat down last night and taught myself basic motion tracking using Live

i payed no attention to matching lighting or shadows in this it was merely to try out what i had learnt about tracking

What did you use for the tracking? Looking nice.

I like the start on the plane, nail it into a real detailed job Pete!

gster123::::: cheers

i used maya live for the tracking, recorded the plate using my digi camera so its not that great quality,

its surprisingly easy to use (i thought) although quite time consuming espec when it loses the tracking point even though its barely moved.

will finish this model, im still quite bad at texturing so this will be the hardest part for me, gotta decide if i want close up of just long shots, will comp it flying onto a live plate that is my goal for this project

Live's not too bad, thought you might be using something a bit more special if its uni. (although why not just use maya live since its there)!
