Dom - challenge - Spaceship

So i decided to give this a go. I think spaceships was one of my suggestions in the poll so i figure i should enter. user added image

The entries so far are looking really good. Its a subject that i think people can get into... unfortunately i don't have a lot of time to spend on this. I'm waiting to hear about a job, it'll be my first job in commercials so fingers crossed!
in the meantime the Moving Picture Company keep extending my contract, which is great, but means i'm a bit busy.

here is where i am after 3 days, i think next weekend i'll sort out an environment.

i'll post up some WIP images... 2 secs

I would not moan about that - I would kill for a job right now

Great start so far

wow lots of feedback! well here are my WIPs so far anyway...

I will begin to build an environment this weekend i think. I also plan to tweak the texture. i will desaturate it more. maybe make the engine more opaque and add some veins and a touch of glow. I'm going for an organis engine thing. the scale stripe will be extended down to break-up the lower front part of the ship and i will think about decals.

this is the reptilian race, i forget the spelling tho. the final scene will be them fleeing their homeworld with a big expanding sun or something kicking about. user added image

I've been meaning to comment on some other threads but just got too caught up with modeling,
I'm really liking it so far Dom, I like the insect style to it and I think you should definitely go with adding some veins into the wings, will be interesting to see what your environment turns out like too.
Good luck with the rest of it and keep up the good work!

I also like the idea of a bug hammer, and you really have gotten a fine one going. I also apologize for not commenting sooner. I will watch your progress with much interest!

Working in Render passes is not something I've covered yet so I wouldn't say I understand what it's about at all. But I was just liking your ship and trying to deconstruct how you'd made it. I really like all the tiny orange lights you've got around the middle. Is the main hub of the ship a nurbs sphere?

not to be mean but what are reptiles doing in an insect-like ship? although the surface of the main body is quite reptile-like, so meh...

So they can lick the side if they are hungry?

[bs] the race that enslaved them were insectoids. When they rebelled, the vyrium took their ships as they were technologically superior.[/bs]

Nice idea hammer, I was going to do something similar as a bs, will have to change that now...lol, I had a few different ones in mind so will pick another.

Liking the enviroment work so far, I can already picture the ship in there, look forward to seeing it!
