motion path

hi im new to maya and this forum so just want to introduce myself 1st im josh im 15 and i just got maya 8.5 i do mostly 2d animation using flash and toon boom and i have ventured out into the 3d world as im inspired by alot of 3d films.

i have been following mayas tutorials and i have got to a bit where i have to attatch a space ship to the curve i decided to make my own spaceship and curve but when i attatch it to the curve the ship follows the curve side ways how to i change this? so it goes front ways.
thank you josh

this should do it.
select your spaceship and clcick ctrl+A to open the attribute editor, then select the motion path tab and under Motion Path Attributes change the front axis so the spaceshipfront is facing along the curve.

As Jsprogg suggested or you could do it through the channel box....

To be totally honest,

I would probably never connect geometry straight onto a path. I would first create a locator and attach that to the motion path. I would then move my geometry with the snap tool to the locator and parent my geometry to it.

This way your the model will follow the path but you are also free to translate and rotate it as you wish.

I hope that makes sense to you,

Mat.

I made THIS a few months ago to show someone how to have a camera follow a path and, at the same time, point at a specific object. If you replace the camera with your geometry and forget about the Aim Constraint part of the tutorial (or at least ignore it for now) it should do the trick.

Take it easy,

Mat.

ok while doing your tutorial i messed around with the settings in the motion path and figured out how to fix it for some reason i had to cancel out the settings by putting -90 in front twist and 90 in side twist then when i changed the up twist it banked user added image
