Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

what do you mean how to light it?

it all depends on what style and mood you are going for

you will still have to choose a mood, night time (moon), grunge, clean ect textures will help a lot.

the only advice i ca really give you is try using decay on the lights, maybe soft shadows, dark corners (can cheat and use negative lights) as in real life corners are always darkest.
will u be using mental ray or just software, if using MR you can play with final gather, ect

experiment with different types of lights (never use ambients as they will flatten your image)
colours will drastically effect the scene.
look in your room to see how light is being reflected

oh and remember shadows are not always black

find a reference pic of a lit jail and then just try to match the lighting... people always try to light their scenes ONLY from where the modeled light sources are... you don't need to stick a light in where the light bulb actually is, you can put them anywhere! you'll find that the majority of jails are surprisingly lit from windows, not lights. lights are mainly used at night (before lights-out heh).

i cant remember the shader but it might be surface shader and teak the glow(s) and colour
when this is rendered in MR it emits light that casts shadows as well
will post up more on it when i next get on maya

there are many ways.., reference and plan.

maybe it might be difficult to get the correct colour bounce light without the textures??

jails have prettty rough textures on the walls.., the ones ive seen anyway!!

If you haven't done your texturing yet, do that first. It will help define the mood automatically. Everything looks too flat right now. As if it's all made of the same metal. Once it's textured, as others have mentioned, the lighting will come from the lighting scheme. If you're just asking how to make the lamps glow, that can be taken care of by a shader, unless you're really crazy, in which case you would model the light fillament and then a clear bulb, and have the fillament glow user added image
