Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

// Error: line 0: Error reading file.

Hi there. I worked on a project one week. Once I restarted my computer [I saved the file first]. When I tried to open my .mb this error showed: // Error: line 0: Error reading file.
This is what showed up in the script editor:
file -f -options "v=0;" -typ "mayaBinary" -o "D:/My Documents/Desktop/ /Others/Maya Rigs/Cool Guy/cool guy.mb";addRecentFile("D:/My Documents/Desktop/ /Others/Maya Rigs/Cool Guy/cool guy.mb", "mayaBinary");

Most likely your file has been corrupted. If it is, you're kinda SOL when saving with .mb. With .ma, you can (sometimes) recover your information. Hopefully you have backups.

First question: what is SOL user added image
Second question: what is the different between .mb and .ma?
Third question: can I recover my scene?

I opened the file in a hex editor (allows me to take a look at binary files) and there is absolutely zero information in the file; it's all zeros. Sorry, but it's gone.

Hi Lokjutus, the file is fine. It is still intact. It is a Maya 2014 file.

Thank you PixalZA. It's in Maya 2014 - that I completely forgot. I was trying out Maya 2014 and without thinking I overwrote my Maya 2012 file. Is there any way to get it back to 2012? Because I don't think I will finish this project by the time my 2014 trial period ends.

Easiest is to export your geometry to obj or fbx and import it into 2012.

Or export as a .ma, and when opening the scene, check "Ignore version".
