Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 2
This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

manipulator tool greyed out

Please tell me there is a way to fix this problem. I am freaking out. I cant move my model. The manipulator is grayed out. What the heck?

You probably locked the translation channel. Select the model and go to window>General Editors>Channel Control. Proceed to the Locked tab and select the XYZ translations on the left hand side and press the "move>>" button, to move them to the Non-locked window. THis should do it!

if that doesnt work set your 3D settings to 'quality' not, 'let the application decide.'

same thing happened to me.., maya 2008, nvidea 8500 GT.
take it easy and life will be easy
