Complex UV Layout in Maya
Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

Smoothing sharp edges?

Please... I have had this program for almost 2 days and I have no idea what I'm doing and I have no idea where I went wrong.

Some of the edges on my model are all kinked and not smooth like most the other ones are. Anyone know what tool/what I'd need to do to fix them? :/

Pictures of what I'm talking about:

Whatever the deal with the green faces aside, theres two areas in the middle of the head that have random triangular shape and shading, and the neck is indented.

Pulling on the vertexes/edges to try and fix it just does this:

Also another problem area is the mouth, which is partially seen in the last picture.

Again, edges dip down and I don't know how to fix it.

Also having a lot of problems with Maya not letting me delete edges/vertexes due to them being "borders", even though they shouldn't be.

I won't be surprised if it's some really simple thing I need to do but like I said, I've had the program for almost 2 days, no prior experience, and google isn't being kind enough to help me figure this out.

If you press 1 on your keyboard, it should become apparent. Models only smooth correctly when each polygon is a quadrilateral - your model is full of n-gons (faces with more than 4 edges). Splitting the faces into quads will fix the problem.

Imagination is more important than knowledge.

Thanks but the actual issue was that there was stray polygons inside my model connecting things weirdly. Assuming it happened when I had problems making the duplicate special trick work for mirror the model.
