Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

Export plugins for Maya (3DS in particular)

Does anyone know what export plugins there are. I mainly want to be able to export to 3DS format, and ideally a free one if there is one.
Otherwise any info on this would be helpful. Thanks..

Well, in your plugin manager, there are a few highly-supported export plugins that are NOT enabled by default.

Check them outuser added image

Windows/settings and preferences/plugin manager

Check ON BOTH checkboxes for the, obj, and vrml plugins at leastuser added image

Right now, there is no free .3ds exporter that I know of.

However, Max will understand the .obj formatuser added image

Thanks for that! The obj. format should do the trick. I've got other 3D software that recognises obj files and can export to 3DS that way.
Its a little long winded but still the same result.
