My ideas for a Maya computer

The best Maya computer for me is the one I can afford, right?

I would like a computer to run Maya 2011 and Adobe CS5.5. I have done research for a couple of weeks and have read the Maya list of approved workstations and graphics cards.

I would like to do 3D short animations and would like to get an animation job or be involved in collaborating on animation projects.

I have downloaded the PLE version of Maya 2011 on my Dell XPS, and it works for the easy stuff.

There are many variables for processors, ram, and video cards. The limiting factor will be my budget of around $4000.

Is there a better way to spend money on processors, ram, and video card?

Plan A about $1000 additional cost
Dell XPS 8300 (have)
Intel iCore 5 2300 (this has an approved EM64T processor)
Windows 7 Home now,>>>>>>>>>>> upgrade to Windows 7 Professional
1TB HD
6 MB now,>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>upgrade to 8GB RAM
Integrated card now,>>>>>>>>>>>>> upgrade to NVidia Quadro 2000
450W power supply

Plan B $4130
Dell T7500
Dual Quad Core Intel® Xeon® Processor E5620, 2.40GHz,12M L3, 5.86GT/s, turbo
12GB, DDR3 RDIMM Memory, 1333MHz, ECC (6 DIMMS)
1.5TB SATA 3.0Gb/s, 7200 RPM Hard Drive with 32MB DataBurst Cache™
2GB NVIDIA® Quadro® 4000,

Plan C $3210
Dell T7500
Dual Intel Xeon Quad core E5620 2.4GHz 5.86 GT 12MB cash slbv4
8GB ECC RAM
#1 HD 160GB SATA2 7200rpm
#2 HD 1TB SATA2 7200rpm
NVidia Quadro FX4600

Thank you for your help!

Well I have decided to keep my Dell XPS 8300 for now.

I put in 16GB RAM and a Quadro 2000 video card plus Windows 7 professional. It seems to be working and rendering the scenes from "Getting Started".

I will get a 1TB second hard drive next week.

Wow, there sure is a lot to learn. I just got through the MEL section. That is hard when you have not programmed before!

was going to say.. the T7500 is a great machine esp with the dual Quad.. tho I dont care much for the daughter card for the extra processor..

dell's warranty is good too.. if u have a 64-bit machine and ur RAM goes bad.. they just send you a whole new machine..

I bought an Asus N56VM Laptop last week.

6GB Ram, 2GB Nvidia GT630M Graphics, 1TB HDD, 1080p Wide screen, 2.5 GHZ...... Installed Dual OS side by side: Win 7 and Linux Ubuntu. Installed Softwares Like Adobe CS5, Maya 2012, ZBrush, Lightroom, AFX and many more... Maya Works perfectly with Viewport 2.0 and Mental Ray with FG and AMB.. You can check out my artwork in finished gallery which i have uploaded recently.... Its a great Lappy....
