mia_material_x displacement?

Trying to recreate something like this in maya

user added image

So I creted a ramp color thing to use for the displacement, but i can't seem to find anywhere to plug my displacement ramp in the hypershade of the mia_material_x

i know it works on lambert/blinn but i have no clue how to do this in mental ray's material ....

Graph your shader network for the mia_material_x and go to the mia_material_x1SG node. Under shading group attributes you'll find Displacement mat. select file from the options and plug your map in there.

No worries mate, I learnt it whilst doing the Rendering Exteriors tutorial on this site. Goes through setting up various textures with bump, displacement, gamma correction, and fractals. VERY useful tut.

I'd be curious to see the results when you are done. I have not had a lot of success with displacement in maya. It always seems to create terrible geometry.

The higher the resolution of your displacement map the sharper those edges should be. That said it doesn't look to bad to me.
