Split-polygon Tool Trouble

Hey anyone and everyone, question:

In Kurt's Dragon tutorial, he uses the split polygon tool for making edges around the eye, and when he does it, he is able to make a point that is NOT on an edge. The tool will allow him to make a point on an edge somewhere, and extend it to a point in the middle of the face.

Whereas, when I use it, I am only allowed to make a point from an edge to another edge. If i try to place the point in the middle of the face it just puts it on the nearest edge. Why? I want to be abe to make the edges surrounding the eye without having to make them on all the OTHER edges. If that makes sense. If anyone knows what im asking and is familiar with this, well help would be very much appreciated. Thanks guys!!

Hi Nick, if you go into the Tool Settings for the split poly tool, (select the tool, then go to windows, settings/preferences, tool settings) there is an option "split only from edge", turn that off. Hope that helps!
