This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

depending on what kind of particles you're using, you might need to render them seperately with the Hardware Render Buffer, composite them with your original rendered scene, and render as an avi with Premier or After FX or something.

ok so the what type are the particles? look in the particles attributes and see if the particle type has s/w after it. If it does it's rendered with the software renderer if not then it's with the hardware one. The hardware ones dont generally come out nice and if you want to apply shaders and stuff you will want to change to the software ones.

in the hardware render buffer options, you'll want to use select the geometry mask option to hide geometry so only the particles remain. More than likely, you'll also want to use some blur and quite a few passes for each to get a nice look. Just takes a little experimenting to get the look you want.

That depends on your medium of delivery.

i.e, videotape, web, cd etc.

Usually when I do my renders for my reel, or the web, I'll just ouput to standard 601 DV res. (US - 720x486 or 720x480)

But if it is just a quick render test animation, you can do like 320x240 or 640x480 to save on render time.

Oh! hehe.. sry.. my baduser added image

For that I would HIGHLY suggest any UNcompressed format such as Maya .iff, .tga, or .tiff as they all handle an extra 8 bit alpha as well.
