Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

Aug/Sept Challenge Rules and Guidelines!

August - September Challenge!

Dinosaurs!

To celebrate the SM T-Rex DVD, we're going to have a big, 2-month challenge featuring Dinosaurs! Here are the rules and guidelines:

The goal: Create a dinosaur! The catch? Create a NEW dinosaur! You can make it serious (Ultra Mega-saurus or whatever) or humerous (the Dog-a-saur! ).

1) Show concepts! Show progress!

2) Texturing IS required. Rigging, animation, etc however is NOT. If you want to pose your dino, you can model it in the pose. Otherwise, you'd have to rig for posing. But either way, posing is not required, but can make an entry look cooler.

3) BONUS goal: Create an environment for your dinosaur! This goal is secondary and should only be attempted once your dinosaur is finished and you have a lot of time left over.

4) Label your thread thusly:

Aug/Sept - Norm or Noob - Your name

Choose to classify yourself as a Normal or Noobie class entry. Whichever class you choose is the class your final submitted entry will compete against! A winner will be chosen from both classes.

5) Mods and Admins can enter, but are inelligible to win and do not count toward the Grand Prize consideration of 8 entries mentioned below. If a mod chooses to participate, choose "Mod" class rather than Norm or Noob.

6) If 8 or more Normal entries finish among the 3 Simply sites participating, a Grand Prize will be rewarded! Regular VIP point prizes will be awarded to both a Normal and Newbie winner, regardless!

The due date of the challenge is September 30th!

The GRAND prize (should there be enough normal entries) will be:

1) A FREE copy of the new SimplyMaya T-Rex Modeling DVD!
2) A FREE copy of the Organic Modeling 1 DVD!
3) A FREE SimplyMaya T-Shirt!
4) A Maya book of your choice!
5) 25 VIP points!

Normal and Newbie winners will both recieve:

1) 20 VIP points for downloading tutorials at any of the Simply sites!

well, let's not forget, the goal is not to create a pre-existing dinosaur, but to make up a new one, so it should be very difficult for such a thing to happen.

I think you might be confused when I said that, yes, you can create realistic looking dinos, but I didn't mean pre-existing dinos.

I'd prefer to see original creations. More fun that way.

If you want to, though, I suppose you can create real dinos, but original creations will probably be given more preference in the end.
