Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 2
This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

Getting image plane straightened for Pilot Girl

There is probably a quick fix for this, but bear with a newbie.

I downloaded part one of "Pilot Girl" to give it a try. After I added the front image to the polygon plane as the tutorial shows, the image is not straight (the picture is not straight up and down). The lower part of her body is coming out of one side at an angle and the top part of her body is at an angle on the other side of the plane.

I've attached a Jpeg. Can someone tell me what I need to do to to fix this?

Thanks.

I've got exactly the same problem. I assume you have Maya 7.0 as thats what happens when I use that version.

I'm currently using 6.5 until I can find a solution or one of the good peeps on these boards finds a solution. So it might be best to stick with that for the time being.

Edit:

I think this has the same problem and a possible fix.

Another Update:

I seem to have fixed it, thanks to the post by Varley. When you create your image plane, go into the hypershade and assign your image as normal. Then with the material selected (still in Hypershade) Go down to where it says 'Hardware texturing.

Change your texture resolution from Default to Highest.
You could try the other resolutions, but Highest has worked for me.

Hope this helps!!

Thanks Keith. Yes, I'm using 7.

I followed your "another update" tip and changed the default to highest, and it worked. user added image

I appreciate the help.

Thanks again.

one more question if i could

One more question I need help with. The image is straight now--see below--but no matter what setting I try can i get the jagged edges smoothed out.

I looked for my Maya.env folder, but I can't find it.

Is there some other setting that would smooth this picture out?

I havent done anything to the maya.env file as I couldnt find it either!!!

Let us know how you get on.

Cheers!!!

Here's the best version so far

Here's the best, non jagged picture I could get. I smoothed out some of the jaggedness with these settings on the material tab:
texture resolution --"highest (256x256)"
texture settings--"use global settings"

Then, in the file tab next to the materials tab, I went under "extra attributes," and there was a "resolution" box with the number 256 in it. I changed the number to 1024 and this is what smoothed out the picture as much as it did.

Anyway, it's pretty good now and I'm set to get started.

Thanks for the help and the followup Keith. I appreciate the kindness.
