Terragen

I've been using Terragen for years and recently decided to try and import a terragen terrain into Maya. There is a plugin for Terragen that allows you to export (Wavefront) .OBJ files but I have had no success getting Maya 5 to load 'em up.

Has anyone had any joy with this?

if maya cant load the obj the plug must be disconnected...
it must be called objimport or something like that, just turn it to autostart

This doesn't solve your problem but if you're just using Terragen for a background matte, why not just composite it later? Just output it as an image file and map to a plane or something for a background while you're modeling. Then you can build forefront geometry in Maya and match the lighting of the Terragen render.

I thought about that. Also, I could import a greyscale hightfield from Terragen (as a TGA or something) and apply it as a displacement map to a flat surface. It's just frustrating that what should be the simple solution doesn't work.

I get the following error on import:

Code:
// Error: line 1: OBJ file line 29: index out of range. //
// Error: Error reading file. //
