Dum Dum Dummmmmm, finally a shot of the underside!

I managed to get the cargo hold pretty much done this afternoon, along with the hangy down bits under the wings (once again not too sure on the technical name for them, they sort of remind me of paniers on a bike). As the wings were initially extruded from the original body I had to spend a fair amount of time getting the geometry to fit together again, a bit of a pain but at least I have no intersecting faces now.

Well as far as modeling is concerned I think I'm on the home run now, just got the tail, the rear jets, a couple of hatches, some solar panels and the tiling to finish then it's done and the real work begins!!

Amazing very nice detail, good stuff.

I havent seen the movie it's connected to, but how big is this thing? Star destroyer, enterprise, milenium falconish?

Thanks folks,

very kind words, glad you all like it. I found out that the hangy down bits under the wings are where the landing gear comes out of, not sure if I'm going to model the feet though.

Magicsy, I really don't know if there's an answer to that one. From my point of view I suppose that, on this model, extruding faces then adding detail has certainly kept the poly count down. If you have intersecting faces chances are that you that some of them are unnecessary. On another model though I may find that the only way to get the detail that I'm after would be to model the parts seperately then place them where they should go.

farbtopf, according to the schematics I got from the internet the wingspan is 40m the length is 63m and the height is 18m. As far as comparisons go, I suppose it is closest to the Millenium Falcon. They are both cargo ships modified for smuggling too.

I just remembered I have to make the shuttles too!

Cheers,

Mat.

Hello again,

I got some more details put on the top, there's the grills, struts and windows on the front of the top part I've tiled a bit more of it too. The solar panels are done as is the second escape hatch on the roof. Not sure where to go next, the end is so close I can almost taste it!!

Take it easy,

Mat.

sweeeet.
But are the round things on both sides (engines?) meant to be so edgy since the rest of the model seems to be quite smooth?

EDIT
oops, had a look at some pictures myself, you're right they are qite edgy!

farbtopf,

You're right, the engines are a bit blocky. they were the first part I made and I wasn't sure how detailed I was going to make it. The front part doesn't concern me much as the edges are quite sharp anyway but I'll deal with smoothing the middle part when I've finished the rest of the model.

Cheers,

Mat.

Very nice mate. Now you just have to look forward on beveling, unwrapping, and then texturing the little thing!

Hello again,

I wish it was a tutorial then I'd know what I was doing next, Vlad I think I'm going to need all the luck I can get when it comes to texturing so cheers in advance!

One last pic for the end of the day, just a bit more to do then the body's done.

Good night folks!
