Beer glass scene creation
This course contains a little bit of everything with modeling, UVing, texturing and dynamics in Maya, as well as compositing multilayered EXR's in Photoshop.

starjsjswars - yeah, I'm probably going to have a go at doing a takeoff/landing scene and a scene in the air where it gets hit (an excuse to do some explosions/smoke etc). It might change depending on how the model turns out.

hey Si

You going to any conferencesthis year? Might be going to the SCA in Dublin, might be worth you having a look with your flocking.

Hi Steve,

I've not heard of the SCA, is there a website or info somewhere so I can have a look? Sounds interesting though (especially being in dublin) user added image

Another small update, just blocking in the oil temperature and pressure gauges towards the top and adding in the general shape of the rear of each dial.

cheers younglion user added image I'm thinking its got a bit too detailed now

Not much time on this today, just adding the rudder control pedals, throwing in a real old dummy model and moving things around so that the scale looks right.
I heard that these things were cramped with two people in the front and I can believe it now.
Think I'm gonna box the necessary bits in (to stop over detailing everything) and soon move onto the outer surface. It'll be normal mapped to show all the pot rivets holding the metal together.

what's the polycount so far?

about 290k lowres so far NeoStrider
140k for both engines (due to the detail of the heat fins etc)
66k for both wings and central wing area (due to the multiple holes in each wing strut piece)
50k for the fuselage, turret and tail area
36k so far for the cockpit

Modelling todo:
- remainder of cockpit dials/controls
- box in cockpit parts
- copilot seat
- propeller
- wingtip
- pneumatic turret mechanism and bits around it (controls + ladder)
- bomb bay
- tail structure
- tail wheel
- .303 machine gun in port wing
- lights in wings
-tidy up exterior surface

Texturing todo:
- standardise green army shader for most of interior
- standard metal shaders for engines
- cockpit dials
- exterior body (wings, fuselage, turret, cockpit)

This model will be used for normal mapping a lowres version to drastically reduce the total polycount

Here's a viewport grab of the lowres total (my own hosting so no worries about image size):

and a closer up with preview smoothing:

my crap-assed video card (ati radeon all-in-wonder 8500DV 64MB) has trouble handling even 25,000 polys. damn. i guess it's time for an upgrade!

(oh hell the thing is 4 years old. i should just get another comp lol)
