Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

May Challenge - DrKnow - N00BIE

Hey,
I seriously doubt that I go anywhere with this, considering It is only my second model(my first one sucked big time). Any help with my model would be greatly appreciated.

looks like you have the basic shape done so far.
now you have to smooth it and add the details.

Well DrKnow, stick it out here on simplymaya, and I'm sure you'll pickup some really useful tips, and as well advice from all the cool people on this forum. When I started on this site, I couldn't even model a head, and here I am doing the one of myself.. all thanx to practice and this site.

That's a good start I think.

It can be quite hard to pose a figure if you model it with arms up- you could consider modelling it against an image plane to get the proportions you want. People often model in the 'da vinci' pose with arms out, but others prefer the arms at a bit of an angle to help with muscle definition.

Has some good pictorial references.

You could also have a look at the free tutorial on this site for making a simple person- you can get a good shape to work from and it is very easy to follow;

https://www.simplymaya.com/movie_page...html?tut_id=29

This is the the figure I did using that tut when I first started modelling, took about 15 mins and was a good basis for moving forward.

Thanks witchy. That helps a lot. I will change the stance of my character to da vinci, except I might keep the legs in.

Bad Bum Bum...

Hey, can someone help me get a better bum. It is square, and smoothing doesn't get the results I want.
