Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

Geforce FX

do you lot think its worth waiting til april time for the geforce fx? sure its gunna kick sum major ass, but its also gunna hurt ur wallet! and seeing as games dont have to be played at their amazingly bestest, will you just settle for a geforce 4 ti? and then theres the whole issue of not many mboards (and hardly any dual mboards) that support agp pro 8x

what are ur views?

personally id love to get my hands on it, but seein as i want a dual AMD system, i cant get an FX cos the mbaord wont support agp8x user added image

nobody forces you to use the agp 8x. they better make fx compatible with lower speed agp. i do believe though that waiting for the fx is good. and if it will only mean that the gf4/quadro4 drops with price significantly down. but then, there is never a good time to buy hardware - it is always outdated within at most 6 months.

just my $0.02

Hard to say until some actual benchmarks come out, but i think it will be. Discreet are doing some sort of patch for Max which will take advantage of the new nv30 features - if A|W do the same then it'll definatly be worth getting!
I'll be getting one at the same time Doom3 comes out user added image my ti4200 will last out til then no worries.

is the GF FX going to be amazing for games, but also amazing for graphics? like a hybrid of the ti4600 and the xgl900 ?

probably not. the chip of course will be able to handle both, but nvidia might stick with one driver for games and one for premium price for graphics.

I cant remember the exact figures, but there was a benchmark nvidia published for spec view perf(which tests raw OpenGL performance) and the Geforce FX was about 3 times faster than the Wildcat 6210. Of course this is somthing from nvidia so it could well be BS, but if thats anything to go by then it sure will be nice for graphics!

i am only speculating. if i were a business man, and could sell a blue car to lots of ppl for $100, and then have the same car painted in red (same production cost) which looks faster and sell it to a few ppl that are willing to pay $10000. then why would i not paint the car red as "limited" edition and have the majority drive the boring cheap blue car user added image

but seeing as the mbaord will only be 4x, and the gfx card will be 8x, does that mean a lot of the powerful capabilities of the gf FX would be lost? user added image
